Plant Based Medicinal Care Pathways
We recognise that conventional treatments may not always provide the relief or quality of life that every patient deserves. As an established medical centre, our role is to act as your clinical partner in exploring alternative therapeutic options.
At Medika, we provide a structured and professional pathway for patients to access plant based medicinal treatments through rigorous clinical assessments and established regulatory frameworks. Our medical team focuses on patient safety and therapeutic outcomes, ensuring every individual undergoes a comprehensive review before being considered for alternative care pathways.
Professional Clinical Assessments
The journey toward plant based medicine begins with a thorough medical evaluation. Our AHPRA registered doctors conduct in depth consultations to understand your medical history, current symptoms, and the treatments you have previously trialled.
Under current Australian guidelines, plant based medicines are generally considered when conventional options have proven unsuitable or have caused intolerable side effects. During your initial assessment, we will review your eligibility and discuss the clinical evidence surrounding plant based alternatives for your specific condition.
Navigating the TGA Approval Process
Accessing plant-based medicine in Australia involves navigating complex regulatory requirements set by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). Most of these treatments are classified as unapproved therapeutic goods, meaning they are not currently listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).
Our practitioners are experienced in the Special Access Scheme (SAS Category B) and the Authorised Prescriber (AP) pathways. This allows us to ensure that all legal and safety protocols are assessed in order to establish eligibility.
Integrated Patient Referral and Care
Once a patient has been qualified and the relevant TGA approvals are in place, we facilitate a seamless transition to our dispensing partners. Medika Health remains a core part of your healthcare team, providing the clinical oversight and ongoing monitoring required for Schedule 4 and Schedule 8 medications. Please note we ask for a referral from your regular GP.
Our partnership with local pharmacies ensures that your treatment plan is handled with professional care from the first assessment through to the dispensing of your medication. We believe in a multidisciplinary approach where your GP and alternative medicine specialists work in tandem to support your wellbeing. We will correspond with the your regular GP and relevant specialists as part of a collaborative and transparent team.
A Seamless Local Pathway for Plant Based Medicine
Effective healthcare relies on a coordinated effort between your doctor and your pharmacist. To ensure our patients receive the highest standard of continuity, we provide information on reputable local pharmacies where they may be able to source plant-based medicine.
Located within the Westminster area, our presence allows us to provide a comprehensive health hub where your initial assessment and TGA application are handled with professional synchronisation by a Perth-based integrative medical clinic.
Patient Safety and Compliance
Patient safety is our primary concern when exploring plant based medicinal options. Our clinic adheres to strict ethical guidelines, ensuring that every referral is based on clinical necessity and potential therapeutic benefit.
We provide education on the legal aspects of using plant based treatments in Australia, including driving regulations and workplace safety considerations. By maintaining a high standard of clinical governance, we ensure that your transition into alternative therapy is safe, transparent, and fully compliant with Australian health regulations.
